The short answer

If you cannot sleep during a planned flight window, do not treat it as sleep you received. Avoid trying to repair the whole trip from one generic rule. The remaining flight time, local arrival time, sleep already lost and your next fixed commitment all change the sensible next step.

First, separate the window from the result

A jet lag plan can identify a useful period for sleep. It cannot make the cabin comfortable or confirm that you slept. Noise, light, meals, a poor seat and simply being unable to switch off can reduce or remove the sleep the timetable appears to offer.

This matters because six hours allocated to sleep is not the same as six hours obtained. A plan that treats the allocation as a full night may understate how much rest you still need.

What changes the next decision?

  • Time left before landing. The final hour is usually a poor time to start a long sleep.
  • Local arrival time. A morning arrival creates a different problem from landing near local bedtime.
  • Sleep already lost. The need for rest can remain even while you are trying to move onto destination time.
  • Your next commitment. A meeting, drive or childcare duty can limit when recovery sleep is practical.
  • Your health and medicines. Do not add or increase sedating products without suitable medical advice.

Should you keep trying to sleep?

There is no single answer for every flight. If there is a usable block before landing and sleep still fits the destination plan, another attempt may be reasonable. If little time remains, settling for quiet rest and planning the next sleep after arrival may be more practical.

The CDC notes that sleep loss during travel can worsen jet lag symptoms and that short naps after arrival may help alertness, while longer daytime naps can interfere with the next local night. The useful choice depends on timing, not only tiredness.

How Offset represents cabin sleep

Offset does not count sleep in the air like sleep on the ground. Planned flight sleep starts no earlier than one hour after takeoff and ends one hour before landing. If transit cannot provide enough useful rest, the planner can include recovery sleep after arrival.

Offset does not currently know whether you actually slept during a window. It does not adapt live to a missed sleep step. The lower cabin weighting is a planning assumption, not sleep tracking.
